NPORS N104 Overhead Crane
The NPORS N104 Overhead Crane course is for people who operate an overhead crane in their workplace. It covers the crane’s components and key controls, pre-operational and running checks, appropriate PPE and safe, efficient operation. The course is delivered onsite, provided the onsite requirements are met.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for individuals who need to operate an overhead crane within their workplace.
If you already hold a recognised qualification for this category, you can attend a one-day refresher course.
Course content
By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:
Industry and equipment knowledge
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and your responsibilities as a plant operator.
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
- Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
Preparing to work
- Set up extraction zone.
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for overhead crane use.
- Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
Operating the crane
- Prepare the overhead crane for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently.
- Environmental considerations.
- Carry out all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.
Before you attend
Entry requirements
Before attending the course, delegates must have:
- A good understanding of spoken and written English.
- You may need proof of having passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test within the last two years.
What to bring
- Your own appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Certification
Certification available on this course:
- NPORS (Overhead Crane) Traditional Operator Card
- NPORS (Overhead Crane) Red Trained Operator Card.
(Candidates must have achieved the Health, Safety and Environment Operatives test no more than two years before the course start date.)
