Who this course is for

This course is suitable for individuals who need to operate a compact crane within their workplace.

If you already hold a recognised qualification for this category, you can attend a one-day refresher course.

Course content

By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

Industry and equipment knowledge

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in confined spaces and your responsibilities as an operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
  • Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.

Preparing to work

  • Set up an exclusion zone to the lifting plan and risk assessment specifications.
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for mini compact crane use.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.

Operating the crane

  • Prepare the mini compact crane for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • Carry out all end-of-work and shutdown procedures.

Before you attend

Entry requirements

Before attending the course, delegates must have:

  • A good understanding of spoken and written English.
  • If you require the NPORS CSCS Trained Operator card: proof of having passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test within the last two years.

What to bring

  • Your own appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Certification

Certification available on this course:

  • NPORS (Compact Crane) Traditional Operator Card
  • NPORS CSCS (Compact Crane) Red Trained Operator Card.
    (Candidates must have achieved the Health, Safety and Environment Operatives test no more than two years before the course start date.)
